Embedded software (embedded software, firmware, fw) – the contents of the non-volatile memory of any digital computing device: microcalculator, cell phone, GPS-navigator, which contains its program. The image intended to be written into the memory of the device in order to update its firmware is also called the word “firmware”. The word “firmware” is also used to describe the actual process of writing the image to the non-volatile memory of the device.
